Setting Goals Realistically

Personally I find life very boring without goals. It is always good to live life to the fullest and to pursue purpose. Focusing your efforts on a set goal allows you to develop a plan to fine-tune your training to reach your goal. A clear goal will also help you to focus your effort during times of doubt where your mind can wonder and lead to meaningless distractions.

Emotions are invisible to our eyes and so we overlook where they are coming from. Yet the truth is that we create them ourselves. Emotional experience has taught me that happiness is a state of mind that is maintained through acceptance, compassion, resolution, devotion and humour... so your state of mind plays a big part in your pursuit in setting and following through with your goals. Basic needs such as sleep, diet, relaxation and exercise are also essential ingredients in helping us achieve our goals.. if we dont feel right then our capacity to move forward with our goals can be rendered useless

Setting goals seems to be such a simple process. You take a look at yourself, decide what you want to change most, think about how to get started, then do it. Setting goals is pretty standard around the New Year, The difference this year should be that you write down your goals. Setting goals, working hard, and doing our best are great models for living our lives. We may not be Olympic athletes or win gold medals in life, and we may not be successful every time we set out to achieve our goals. But we can learn to be consistant, motivated and a little challenging with ourselves.

Setting goals that are too difficult can lead to frustration and eventually failure. Setting goals can give you greater clarity and focus right now. Whenever you set a goal, always ask yourself How does setting this goal improve my present reality? If a goal does not improve your present reality, then the goal is pointless, and you may as well dump it. For example.. Instead of focusing on your goal to build a successful business by the end of the year, focus on writing the business plan by the end of the month. Instead of focusing on your goal of losing 50 pounds in the next year, focus on exercising 30 minutes each day during January.

Planning means setting goals and managing your time and being realistic..Yet, most people today spend more time planning a two-week vacation than planning their lives by setting goals. It's been said that achieving goals is not a problem--it's SETTING goals that is the problem. Yet for most top achievers, 80% of their goals are "Be" goals, and only 20% are "Do" goals. They're more concerned with character attributes than arriving at a final destination point.. Planning, time management, and goal setting might be fine but science by its very nature resists all attempts to be fitted neatly into lists and time frames.. you can get distracted.. face a crisis.. life also has its unexpected turning points.. so it makes alot of sense to plan your goals for the present.. Plan also specifically how you'll respond to temptations. Decide in advance that if you buy shoes instead of making that deposit for your trip, you'll skip a movie with the girls for a couple of weeks.

Really the best strategy is knowing what to do and simply doing it. Realistic goal setting includes the idea of whether or not the goal can be attained. Do you have to ability to attain that goal or is it outside your ability?. Realistic objectives are objectives that recognize factors which can not be controlled. Said another way, realistic goals are potentially challenging but not so challenging that the chance of success is small.

When things are not working quite the way we want them to.. rather than choosing to argue, banter, or defend your stand, take another road. YOU make your choices now on how you desire to feel throughout the day. Rather than complaining and feeling angry, we can look at challenging situations as opportunities for growth and exploration.

Focus, persistence, commitment, preparation and belief get you across the finish line first on the race track and on the life track as well.. Focusing your efforts on a set goal allows you to develop a plan to fine-tune your training to reach your goal. Finally, realize that goals and action plans aren't cast in concrete. Times change, needs change, and those changes may have an effect on the goal attainment process. Finally, once you have your plan, you start working to achieve it. Good luck!!
